Mozart’s Requiem: A HTC Mozart Review #telstrawp7

For the last two weeks I’ve been a part of the Telstra Social Review; where Telstra gives you a phone for two weeks to test out it’s awesomeness. I initially applied for the first round – the HTC Desire- but didn’t win (I pretty much said that I was a girl so you should give me a phone.. so I always wonder why I didn’t get it); so when I saw that they were doing another review, I thought there was no harm in trying and to my absolute surprise I was selected.
NOTE – This blog post is like pretty much 3000 words, if you are all TL;DR – firstly, STFU and read it because it’s totally awesome, however if you still CBF please go to my SUPER AWESOME summary post.

Apptastic #telstrawp7

Tonights blog is going to be about the Windows Phone 7 Apps. Whilst having a wander around Town Hall Station on the weekend, I noticed this ad (and yes this photo is taken off my Windows Phone 7..)

In my personal opinion, iTWire probably wasn’t talking about the apps for WP7 when they wrote this – the whole Marketplace really doesn’t live up to the iTunes expectations – it feels more like an Ovi Store equivalent more than anything else in terms of size and quality of available apps. I think that’s because it just feels immature and they really don’t have the groundswell of developers wanting to create awesome apps for it yet. In saying that though, there are some pretty cool apps/features you can get for your phone… So what have I been playing with this last few days?

The First 24 Hours of Mozart #telstrawp7

I take photos of my Windows Phone 7 with my iPhone 4 because that is how I roll.

The last 24 hours have been really surreal. I finally got my HTC Mozart, was able to check out the Telstra Experience Centre… and may have kinda been given an Xbox from Microsoft (I know there’s video/photo footage of it, so it’ll be interesting to see if that gets posted) which is like so awesome because I’ve been wanting to get a PS3 for ages to play Guitar Hero on, and I’ve been told the Xbox has Guitar Hero so I’m totally getting that now. I did ask the Microsoft guys for some free games because we like can’t test the Xbox/Phone experience without games, and they said they’d get back to us, but either way – completely stoked I have an Xbox – so thanks so much to Microsoft!!!

But the whole Xbox thing really doesn’t have any weighting for me personally because I don’t have wireless or anything in my apartment – I use the internet through a dongle, so I’ll have to investigate whether there’s anything I can do about that. But I can play Guitar Hero, and Kinect, so that’ll be awesome.

OK, so the phone. I’m not going into the specs because a) I don’t know them and b) a few of these guys are complete nerdburgers anyway so go check out the reviewers here and read their blogs accordingly. But it is a really really nice looking phone – compared to the iPhone it looks a lot sleeker and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to crack if I accidentally drop it.

Surprise! I’m a Telstra Social Reviewer! #telstrawp7

Finally I don’t have to keep it a secret anymore! It’s official, I am one of the lucky 25 people chosen to participate in the Telstra social review of Windows Phone 7.

Excited is probably an understatement.
